Each rpm unit fits 75 12" or 10" records with enough space to breathe and comfortably flip. Given that most reissues these days come in double-sleeve jackets and are pressed on 180gm, we feel 60 is a more accurate ballpark for a regular collection that also includes the occasional box-set outlier and a mixture of double- and single jackets.
You can also house 7" singles, but since the unit is built for 12" records we assume 7" records will be mainly a small sub-use of the rpms.
Personally, we like to rotate a batch of our collection and fill the rpm on a weekly basis to keep things fresh and to rotate through our catalogue finding long forgotten treasures, but that is just one use case. We'd love to see how you fill yours!
All units are made to order. We are a small team of 3 handcrafting the units one by one. If you order today, your unit will be ready before the order that we'll receive tomorrow. If you order today, our current projected lead time is 14-16 weeks but we do everything possible to surprise our clients by finalizing their units faster without compromising quality.
Once the unit is built to perfection, you will receive a tracking number to be alerted that the item has been shipped. If you placed an order over 9 weeks ago and have not received your unit or a tracking link, please reach out and we'll get it sorted ASAP.
1. If you receive a damaged item, please contact us for an exchange. If you insured your item via Route, please follow those prompts.
2. In the unlikely event you have mechanical issues with your unit, please contact us as we will likely be able to fix it for you via simple directions over a call.
3. If you receive the unit but you don't enjoy it for whatever reason, we will accept your return within 20 days of receipt of your unit for a full refund only if the unit is in the same condition as when received. Custom orders are non-returnable unless they fall into categories 1 or 2.
We currently only ship via UPS. If you live in Greater Los Angeles we may be able to organize a courier for you.
All rpm units ship in cardboard boxes with custom Renew™ Recycled Content Foam, which contains 70% recycled resin.
We are using a very simple system that only requires 3 screws: Two large regular screws (or toggle screws if you drill into a wall or area of the wall that has no studs) that go through the french cleat affixing it to your wall and one small screw that goes through the unit itself in a predrilled hole as an additional earthquake safety measurement.
Our french cleat back-board makes the unit easy to hang as long as you have access to a local hardware store for screws specific to your wall, a leveler, a stud-finder, and an electric screwdriver. Like with any substantial furniture, we do recommend having a professional install the unit(s) for you.
We suggest installing the units flush-bottom waist height to mimic the experience one would have flipping through vinyl at a record store.
Please watch the installation video on the product page for a simple visual explanation.
Every listening room is different and demands unique finishes to complement the vision of the owner. We try hard to create units that fit every environment but understand special needs that we are happy to discuss over a quick call. For all orders over 10 units, please contact us directly to discuss logistics, pricing, and shipping.
Not currently, but we are working on popup concepts and will partake in events so make sure to sign up to our mailing list by using the link on the bottom of our site or follow us on social media.
We have decided to cut the middle men and operate as a D2C company allowing us to forward the cost savings on to you.
We do not offer sales or coupons of our made-to-order newly crafted units since the quality and craftsmanship of the rpms command the pricing we have set.
We are planning once-a-year sales of slightly used units to ensure every rpm crafted receives a deserving home.
We work hard to run Toneoptic in the most sustainable way possible given our size and operations. All rpm units ship in cardboard boxes with custom Renew™ Recycled Content Foam, which contains 70% recycled resin. The Polyfelt® record protectors are made of recycled plastic water bottles.
We are currently in the process of joining a carbon offset program that will offset all of our products, many of which are being shipped around the globe and we are very aware of the impact this creates. We further plan some exciting up-cycling collaborations in the near future.
And even though we would always like to choose the components that are the most eco-friendly for the rpm units themselves, we end up picking those that are the most durable since it is our philosophy that we do not want to cut any corners in the manufacturing to ensure that each unit is crafted to outlive their current owners. Our goal is to have the rpm become a part of someone's legacy, for generations to enjoy. We feel not adding to the landfill and instead creating a product that will last will not only create more enjoyment for the owner(s), but also be the better choice in the long term.
